Battle of the Books

On Wednesday, December 10, 2025 elementary school students in grades 3-6 will participate in multiple team competitions.  It's an exciting day to celebrate reading in a fun environment filled with exciting competitions and team challenges!  Each competition includes up to five students working together to answer questions based on a selected 20-book list.

Lit Loop: Teams compete to answer questions as they go through a series of 24 stations. Each station will have a mat with a question on it and each team will work together to answer each question. They will have a specific set of time to answer the question at each station and they may only visit the station one time.

Story Sprint: The first student on a team will run to a proctor who will ask him/her a question.  The student can answer the question, or run back to his/her team to collaborate, then run back to answer the question.  Once finished, the next team member will run up to answer the next question.  Play will continue until one team has attempted to answer all 24 questions.

Book Buzz: Each team will have a buzzer.  The questioneer will ask all teams the same question and the team to buzz in first will answer the question.  If they get it wrong, another team has a chance to buzz in to answer.  Students must be careful, because a wrong answer subtracts points from the score.

After all competitions are scored, a Chapter Challenge competition will be held between the top three teams in each grade-level.  The winner of the Chapter Challenge will be named the champion.  An awards ceremony will be held immediately following the Chapter Challenge.
