    Communities of Practice are cohorts of job-alike leaders who share a similar Problem-of-Practice and a desire to systematically address this problem through a continuous improvement framework alongside regional thought partners. Communities will meet periodically throughout the school year with the support of facilitators. School and district leaders are encouraged to participate as teams to maximize LEA capacity building.

  • Leaders Supporting Our Youngest Learners – A 21CSLA Community of Practice

    The community of practice is designed to:

    • Be a safe space to discuss issues and look for solutions together.
    • We’ll share bright spots throughout the region as we all navigate this new world together.
    • Community meetings will include discussion on UTK updates, credentialing, ascheduling, classroom ratios, essential funding opportunities, early childhood support for TK, P-3 alignment, and more!

    Meets the first Tuesday of every month, from 9am to 10:30am

  • Leading While Female - A 21CSLA Virtual Community

    The Leading While Female community of practice is a combination of personal and group discussion for breaking down the barriers and taking action to confront and close the gender equity gap. It draws on the research of feminism, intersectionality, educational leadership, and Cultural Proficiency.

    These sessions will help us better:

    • Understand the impact of faux narratives that foster lack of confidence among girls and women;
    • Utilize the Tools of Cultural Proficiency to examine barriers to overcome and support functions to locate for your career planning;
    • Learn from the stories of women leaders who have confronted and overcome barriers to career development, including women who were targets of implicit bias.

    This community is open to both women and men who are ready to confront the gender equity gap in educational leadership.

    • Participants must be a K-12 teacher leader or administrator working in one of our Mid-State partner counties. 

      (Kings, Inyo, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Mono, Monterey, San Benito, Santa Cruz, Stanislaus, or Tulare)

  • Improvement Science Cohort - A 21CSLA Virtual Community

    In partnership with 21CSLA, Mid-State Collaborative (MSC) is excited to offer a year of community and shared learning in the area of Improvement Science (IS). No matter where you are in your improvement journey, you will gain new IS tools and resources to make them your own, all grounded in equity and social & emotional learning competencies! Participants may be coaches, educational leaders, teams or individuals. We will spotlight work across the MSC regions, from county office network improvement communities to school site projects. Come join the collaboration!

  • Multigrade Teacher Leader - A 21CSLA Virtual Community of Practice

    • Multi-grade teachers specialize in providing an integrated curriculum that is customized to meet the needs of multi-age classrooms.
    • Designing lessons for three or more grade levels for simultaneous instruction requires a unique set of skills and knowledge.  
    • Multi-grade teachers often work in small and rural schools, where there are few colleagues with which to collaborate regularly.  
    • Multi-grade teachers are leaders who have a significant role in their school’s climate and culture.  
    • There is scarce data available that demonstrates the strengths and needs of small and rural schools.

    These sessions are designed to help administrators use alternative discipline methods to create positive, meaningful, and long-term behavior shifts for students.

    We'll explore:

    • An updated alternative discipline toolkit with additional easy-to-use tools, templates, and processes.
    • Methods for addressing traditional beliefs and pushback from stakeholders.
    • Recommendations for bringing policy to practice.
    • Case studies, examples, and lessons learned from educators in the field who successfully used the first edition.

  • Fall Wellness Symposium For School Leaders

    Over the past two years, our school leaders have had to deal with an inordinate amount of stress from having to lead in dual pandemics and absorbing secondary trauma from dealing with trauma emanating from their school community. As the old saying goes, it is lonely at the top. The antidote to loneliness is “true” connection, with the two main ingredients being: 1) seeing ourselves as more limitless than our identities and/or preferences; and 2) radically honest, and healthy boundaries, communication with others.

    Please join MCOE for this free in-person event, as we check in on our school leaders, by creating a space for us to come together to unwind and be kind to our minds. After all, Social and Emotional well-being is critical for the success of school administrators to lead their staff, students, and the families that they serve.
